Artist Statement

When it comes to my work, I am inspired by the things in life that surround me and I find ways to include them in my art pieces. While working with clay, my theme has mostly been nature. From the seashells at the beach to the flowers my mom planted in the yard, and to the snowmen in winter, even the pieces of art from the places I have traveled worldwide have inspired me. For my wall piece, I was inspired and created a version of a wall I saw when I traveled to Casa Batllo, Spain. The places I have traveled have had a great impact on my art pieces and my everyday life.
Since I have one more year of art, I will continue to grow, to learn more about it and its experiences. So far I have overcome many obstacles and challenges, like being behind on finishing my wall piece within less than a week and still submitting it on its due date because I was out recovering or working with clay that dried faster than I needed it to and needing to start all over again with a time crunch. The pieces I have made didn't turn out the way I originally intended, but I looked at the bigger picture showing I am dedicated by going to extra help almost every day or even bringing my piece home. Taking art has shown me time management and patience along the way, and it has given me many friends which I enjoy.
